A Yellow Brick Road good enough to EAT!!

grrr...I don't know why the pictures aren't clickable...sometimes they are, sometimes they aren't!

Remember this kit that I showed you a couple of weeks ago? The girls and I got together this week and assembled our Yellow Brick Road quilts! They are turning out really fun! Everyone is adding a unique touch to their quilt top by making the borders a bit different. I added a 1" gold border around mine before adding the pretzel border. The gold is also what I am using for the back. The flash really washes out the true colors of this quilt, btw. It's much more colorful in real life. I'll take pictures of all the other tops at some point too...not all of them are completely assembled just yet.

Of course, Smokey had to check out the new quilt top. It's not the best picture of him, but it gives a closer look at some of the fabric so you can see the snacks!
We are trying to come up with a fun name for this quilt...since there are 4 of us each making it...maybe something to include "friends," "friendship"...but also "snacks" or "food" or "fun." I just don't know...I'm not creative that way!! LOL

Block of the Month progress....

If you have read much of my blog, then you can probably figure out that I am a sucker for all things Thimbleberries! It borders mildly on obsession. :) Of course I signed up for the 2009 Club Quilt! I am doing the "Traditional" colorway. This week I received the month one club kit from The Fat Quarter Shop and I just couldn't wait to cut into it and sew up the blocks!

Also, a couple of evenings ago, I finished block 8 from Capricorn Quilts Quilter's Blessing Stitchery. I have block 9 about 3/4 finished too!

Quick Smokey update: Smokey had the staples removed today and the doctor said he is healing just perfectly. He is completely back to his normal self and that makes us all very happy. Thanks again for the kind words from all of you...and remember, keep those pincushions out of reach from the kitties! :)

A little progress...

Better late than never! This is Block 7 from last year's freebie BOM by Capricorn Quilts...like most UFO's, it was put aside at some point. You can see my first 6 blocks here. I really love this project though and want to finish it eventually. American Idol started last night, and I can't sit for two hours in front of the TV without something to do with my hands, so I finished this block and made good progress on Block 8. AI is on again tonight...so maybe I'll finish that one tonight!

I'm still plugging along on the Quiltville Double Delight Mystery...stay tuned for an update soon! Also, I'll be drawing the winner of the Whirl into Winter Giveaway tomorrow!!

I caved....

So, one of my resolutions for the New Year was to finish UFO's in 2009 and not to start anything new... Well, that lasted until January 9th. LOL I went with a few friends to a quilt shop in Boise and two of the girls fell in love with a kit using the Yellow Brick Road pattern and all the fabrics were "snack" foods. They decided how fun it would be if we ALL made the quilt together! So I caved under the peer pressure and bought the kit too! There are four of us that will be making it. It is cute...and will be fun to make together. Two of the girls are beginning quilters, so we'll be teaching them as we go.

For those of you following Smokey's progress....here you can see him getting right back to his quilt inspector duties. As soon as I pulled the fabrics out of the bag, he jumped (no jumping, remember!) up to the cutting table and had to give them a good once over. He definitely approves!

Not much quilting going on...

Life seems to keep getting in the way of my sewing/quilting plans! So no updates to share on that front. But I thought you all would get a kick of these cute Smokey pics. He has improved greatly in the last couple of days...almost back to his normal self. He's able to jump on the furniture now...BTW, the vet said to keep him from jumping for two weeks. Someone, please tell me how you keep a cat from jumping? LOL

We snapped these pictures of him this morning of him cuddling with our dog, Buster. Smokey kept scooching (is that a word?) closer and closer to Buster and I really think he was trying to crowd Buster enough to make him jump down. I think Smokey wanted the seat to himself! LOL I also got a picture or two of his incision, but I figured most of you could live without seeing those. There are 20-something staples in his stomach and it's not a pretty sight. He's going to have a serious scar. I told him he was lucky he wasn't going to be wearing a bikini anytime soon. :)

They woke up after snapping a few pictures, then Smokey really started hamming it up and trying to get Buster to play. :) I'm glad he's feeling better!

Step One Completed...Finally

I finally finished Step One of the Quiltville New Year's Eve Mystery. I've started cutting Step Two, but sewing them together will have to wait. I admit, I've peeked ahead at the steps that are posted...and it's pretty exciting! I think I'm going to like this quilt!

For a quick Smokey update, I picked him up from the Vet this morning. He was still pretty out of it from the anesthesia and/or the pain killers. He immediately went under our bed and sat in a crouching position all day. In fact, it wasn't until late this evening that he finally came out and walked around for a bit. It must have worn him out though, because after about 5 minutes he went right back under the bed. I was a little worried about how long it's taking the meds to wear off, but I think I can tell that he's feeling better and not so loopy.

I appreciate all my blogging friends and the encouraging comments about Smokey and his little emergency...I think he's on the mend now and he'll be back to his quilt inspecting job in no time! (minus the needle and thread!)

He swallowed what??

Guess what Quilt Inspector #1 did today? He swallowed a needle and thread! I happened to be sitting on the floor brushing out the dog, who had just had a bath. I looked over and saw Smokey trying to swallow something (you cat owners will know what I'm talking about). I happened to just get a glimpse of the pin/needle...I jumped up and grabbed him by the neck, but "poof" it was gone.

I think I was in denial/shock for about 30 minutes (I know, bad me)...but it really took me that long to process that yes, he really did swallow a pin this time and something was going to have to be done about it! I found out our regular Vet is closed this week (of course) and after calling two others, I finally found one that would take him immediately.

My son was with him when he had the X-ray and apparently you could see the needle, clear as day in his stomach. So....off he went to surgery and now he gets to spend the night in the kitty hospital. But thank goodness he's going to be okay! I'll get to pick him up tomorrow morning about 9:30am.


Silly, silly kitty....I'm thankful too that I saw it and knew that it even happened. Can you imagine if he did it when I wasn't around and what would happen with that needle roaming around in there for a couple of days? yikes....

Slow start....

I making extremely slow progress on the Quiltville Double Delight Mystery Quilt! Oh well...it's not really a race, it will get done eventually! I'm on Step One and I've completed 8 units for Step One....only 112 more to go!! LOL I do have all the parts cut though and that took a lot of time too! Oh and did I mention that Part Three is already up? sigh.... I have all weekend to myself to sew, so I plan to make some serious progress then.
